Wildcrafting St Johns Wort

Shannon always looks forward to the early summer season for gathering St John Wort (Hypericum perforatum). Here in California, St John thrives in sunny, dry, parched places. We picked just a few flowers from each plant, of course.

The flowers are bright and golden, but they stained our fingers deep, dark purple. (A hint as to their hidden powers, perhaps?)

A beautiful, healing golden carpet.

So full of vitality! Can't you feel it?

In goes the pure botanical oil to draw out the healing nutrients.

Here you see the how the extraction looks over time. . . the new jar is on the left; the middle one is starting to develop the distinctive red color, and the one on the right is ready to be blended into various Grateful Body favorites. (No wonder our lotions aren't plain white!)
